Discovery Bay Games, an innovative producer of board games, puzzles, and tablet PC accessories is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our growing team. Our new Assistant Controller will use their knowledge, leadership and experience to own all of the company's financial reporting requirements and perform technical accounting research. This position will report to the Vice President of Finance. Success in the role could lead to Controller position.
Responsibilities include:
- Own the accuracy of the general ledger.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, budget vs. actual analysis, and other financial data.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts.
- Develop and prepare dashboard reporting.
- Update budgets/forecasts.
- Budget variance analysis including monthly reviews with senior management.
- Help manage the annual audit process performed by the company's external auditors.
- Provide information and support to the company to ensure GAAP requirements are met, including establishing and documenting accounting policies and procedures.
- Manage certain critical areas of the company's accounting, including stock-based compensation, reserves and impairments.
- Analyze new and proposed accounting standards issued by FASB to determine the impact on the company, and if required, lead the company's implementation of new accounting standards.
- Review agreements executed by the company to determine the appropriate accounting treatment for new or unusual transactions.
- Monitor and revise policies and procedures as needed to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.
- B&O tax reporting and other state/local tax filings, as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related discipline required. CPA is highly preferred.
- 5+ years' of financial reporting experience, preferably with 3 years of public accounting experience.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Proficient in US GAAP and technical research.
- Very strong Excel skills. Also proficient with Word and PowerPoint.
- Experienced in developing financial models.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently in a fast-paced, highly confidential environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
- Self-motivated, with an intellectual curiosity and action oriented.
- Quick learner.
