How to Nicely Share Your iPad with your Kids

Fadra was already a Yoomi and Duo Plink fan when she ran into Natalie, our Director of PR last year. When she raved about how much she loved the game, we invited her to preview and review some of our products. Here's what she had to say!

So you’ve got an iPad. Maybe you got one for Christmas. Maybe you got one for your birthday. Or maybe you were even lucky enough to get one for Valentine’s Day.

(I actually got mine for Mother’s Day in 2010!)

You are having so much fun dowloading apps and catching up on everything everyone else has been talking about. You have a pretty new cover and you insist that you will take extra special care of this. You insist that no one will touch your iPad until they have been fully cleaned and sanitized.

That wears off pretty quickly and once your kids get wind of this fabulous device, you’ll find that it quickly becomes full of finger smears.

Sure, you could keep them away from it entirely but there are some awesome learning apps, especially for preschool. And when you need a distraction while you’re trying to get your kid calm enough to get his haircut, you might find old Spider-Man reruns on YouTube that he can watch. And even though you said you’d never be those parents, you just might bring it to a restaurant once in a while so the kids can occupy themselves while you have a tiny semblance of an adult conversation.

But have you ever thought of playing with your child on the iPad? Have you ever thought of turning your iPad into a toy or a gameboard? That’s what Discovery Bay Games has done with its DUO iPad accessories.

Yes, I said accessories. Excuse me. They are called appcessories. Let me show you how it’s done. This is me and my adorable son Evan playing Yoomi (with the Duo Plink) and Hidden Picture Countdown (with Duo Pop).

Come for the adorable kid; stay for the really cool appcessories.

Now rush out and get them because they’re a lot of fun.

What? I wasn’t convincing enough?

That’s why Discovery Bay Games has a really cool website that explains it all.

They have really nice product pictures (unlike me).

They have really high quality videos (unlike mine).

I really, really love this game.

And now you should be fully versed in how to properly share your iPad with your kids. You don’t give it to them. You keep their dirty fingers off of the screen (mostly) and you get to spend some quality time playing some fun games. Just try to let them win once in a while.

Here comes the disclosure…

Disclosure: The Yoomi game and Duo Plink is all mine. I won it at the Type-A Parent conference last year and fell in love with it. So when I met the Director of PR at BlogHer last year and raved about how much I loved the game, she invited me to be part of the Duo 50 and have the chance to preview and review some of their wonderful products. She provided me a complimentary Duo Pop game that provided me great entertainment with the family over the holidays.
